Najib receives coutesy call from Kosovo President

PUTRAJAYA, June 8- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today received a courtesy call from Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga at the Perdana Putra building here.

President Jahjaga and her delegation arrived at 5pm and were welcomed by Najib at his office in the building.

najibThey then had an hour-long meeting among others aimed at further boosting bilateral ties between the two nations.

Jahjaga is in the country in conjunction with the Global Summit of Women 2013 which opened in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and ends tomorrow.

Yesterday, Jahjaga and her delegation had also paid a courtesy call to Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia officially forged diplomatic ties with Kosovo from March 18, 2011. The republic declared independence from Serbia on Feb 17, 2008.

Malaysia accorded recognition to the new republic on Oct 30 of the same year and until April 2012, only Malaysia and Brunei were among the Asean countries which did so.

Participants from about 70 countries are taking part in the event in the Malaysian capital.

During its two-decade history, the Global Summit of Women has provided a global platform for women to share ‘what works’ in accelerating women’s economic advancement.

It seeks to expand women’s economic opportunities globally through exchanges of working solutions and craetive strategies forged by women leaders in different parts of the world.
