IPOH, June 18- Perak needs to internationalise its tourism products so that it can become a globally renowned destination, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
“We need to further enhance our tourism events such as Visit Perak Year and so on,” he said on a ‘Selamat Pagi Bersama Menteri Besar’ programme with PerakFM here today.
The 90-minute interview was hosted by Perak RTM Programming Division head Faudzi Ramli, Bernama assistant editor Hafizah Kamaruddin and Utusan Malaysia Perak Bureau chief Muin Sapidin.
He noted that the state had several heritage sites such as the Royal Belum, Pangkor Laut, ‘Perak Man’, Kuala Sepetang and the latest UNESCO-declared Lenggong Valley to draw visitors.
“We must do our best to promote these unique attractions. It’s not necessary to compete with other places as they are unique to our state,” he added.
Touching on the new executive councilors line-up, he said they should not only come up with new tourism products but also for other sectors, especially sports.
Commenting on the first time appointment of two women councilors, namely Datuk Rusnah Kassim for Women, Family, Welfare and National Integration and Nolee Ashilin Radzi for Health, Tourism and Culture, Zambry said women were an important component for nation building.
“There’s no discrimination in terms of policies or ability. We will not discriminate against women as we know that they are capable,” he said.
