KANGAR, June 18- Perlis has become the first state to benefit from the village digital library facility developed by the National Library after its launch by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail (photo) at the Kampung Bongkok library, Padang Lati near here today.
“I hope this facility will promote lifelong learning among the villagers. This new medium provides easy and speedy access to knowledge and people should use it wisely and not get carried away by the world without borders,” he said during the launch, in conjunction with the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail’s 70th birthday celebrations.
Perlis has 37 rural libraries, with 23 of them in wireless villages and the rest under the Streamyx broadband service.
Meanwhile, National Library director-general Datuk Raslin Abu Bakar said they were stepping up digitalisation and efforts to enrich the content by providing access to databases such as Encyclopedia Britannica Online, Credo Reference and e-book services.
