MELAKA, June 19- The notices of this year’s Umno divisional and branch meetings nationwide may be sent through the short messaging service (SMS), Facebook and Twitter, the party’s executive secretary, Datuk Abd Rauf Yusoh said today.
He said the proposal was made in keeping abreast with current changes and the country’s progress following feedbacks received from party grassroots.
“This new method will however not replace the use of letters, which is compulsory and stated in the party constitution requiring letters to be sent to notify members of the meetings,” he added.
Speaking to reporters after a closed-door briefing on Umno election procedures here today, he said the proposal would be forwarded to the supreme council for decision.
Also present were Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Mohd Ghazali, Melaka Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron.
