KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 – Former Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman has been appointed as the new Chairman and Director of Sime Darby Bhd effective July 1, replacing acting Chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Omar.
Abdul Ghani, 66, will serve as an Independent and Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby while Samsudin has been redesignated as Non-Independent and Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby, the conglomerate said in a statement today.
Samsudin was appointed acting Chairman of Sime Darby following the retirement of Tun Musa Hitam as Chairman at the annual general meeting held on Nov 8, 2012.
“Sime Darby is honoured to have him on board and we are confident he would help contribute towards efforts to steer the company to greater heights and through challenging times ahead,” he said.
