SHAH ALAM, July 2- Selangor opposition leader Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias (photo) has asked the Selangor government not to purse the local government election as it would change the system of government into three entities – federal, state and local governments.

liasHe said the basis and rationale of the local government election needed to be studied thoroughly, not merely to make changes for the sake of democracy.

“It should bring more benefits than harm to the people,” he told reporters at the State Assembly here yesterday.

He said it would also be a sheer waste of public fund if the local government election would eventually be to the detriment of the public and the democratic system.

Earlier, when debating the royal address in the House, Mohd Shamsudin (BN-Sungai Burong) questioned the state government’s decision to allow Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to take over 484 units of low-cost flat in Taman Keramat, Kuala Lumpur to pave the way for the Datum Jelatek mega integrated development project.

He claimed that the process of land acquisition of the 2.32 ha site by the state and PKNS from house owners was not transparent.

Mohd Shamsudin said before the reins of the state changed hands, the BN government had since 2002 planned to redevelop the land into a low-cost housing project.
