IPOH, July 9- Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan today urged certain quarters not to politicise the death of K.Murugan, an aide to Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate K. Vasantha Kumar, so as not to disturb the police investigation into the case.
He said police had never closed the case investigation but was still continuing with it from various aspects.
“They should instead have full confidence in the Perak police as the incident happened in Perak. There is no question of the case investigation needed to be taken over by Bukit Aman,” he said after attending the state police contingent headquarters’ monthly assembly, here, today.
He was earlier asked to comment on the dissatisfaction of certain quarters over the police investigation into the death of Murugan, whose body was found floating in a disused mining pool in Batu Gajah, near here.
He said police were conducting the investigation in a fair and professional manner, regularly gathering information on the motive.
So far, 12 individuals have been arrested and the statements of 14 witnesses recorded to facilitate the investigation.
Mohd Shukri said certain quarters should not be blowing up the issue to the media without first referring it to the police.
On the crime index in Perak, he said it was down by 11.7 per cent during the January-June period this year, with 2,007 of the 3,805 crime cases solved.
The decrease more than doubled the targated rate of 5 per cent under the National Key Result Area of reducing crime.
