JULY 15- Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Monday hit back at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over his secularism comment.

Digvijaya said, “I want to know what is the definition of secularism according to Modiji. One religion, one culture, one nation is the definition of secularism according to the RSS and Advaniji. Modiji should clarify what is his definition of secularism.”

Digvijaya also accused Modi of politicising the decision on Food Security Ordinance.

“Here we are talking of providing food to poor and needy, he mustn’t politicise this,” Digvijaya said.

diggu_sl1_02-10-2012Amid uproar over his remarks on 2002 riots, Modi on Sunday charged Congress with wearing the “burqa (veil) of secularism” and “hiding in a bunker” each time it is confronted with a crisis.

Addressing a public meeting in Pune, Modi also attacked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue of his party’s “failure” to eradicate poverty and alleged that it was raising the bogey of “threat to secularism” to throttle people’s aspirations.

Union Ministers Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor kept up the attack on Narendra Modi on Twitter.

Tewari said, “The Veil of Secularism is inclusive while wheels of communalism consider Libertarians as KUTTE KA Baccha – PUPPY to be crushed under their SUVs”.

Shashi Tharoor tweeted, “Modi says we “hide behind the burqa of secularism”. Preferable, surely, to the khaki shorts of intolerance&hatred that he now tries to hide?”

Shakeel Ahmad hit back at Modi for his remarks. “The veil of secularism is much better than their (BJP’s) communalism. Communalism divides the country,” Ahmad said on micro-blogging site Twitter
