Ugandan President Receives Sri Lankan Defence Minister

ENTEBBE, UGANDA, July 25- President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has held talks with the visiting Sri Lanka Defence Minister Gotabaya Rajapaksa on bilateral relations, including military and defence co-operation.

Mr-and-Musevini-Uganda-The meeting at State House Entebbe on Monday was also attended by Sri Lankan High Commissioner (ambassador) to Uganda, Vellupillai Kananathan.

At the meeting, the officials also discussed sharing experience on military operations and disaster handling, and offering specialised training to Ugandan armed forces.

sri-lanka-President-and-Museveni1Last November, President Museveni visited Sri Lanka at the invitation of his counterpart, President Mahinda Rajapaksa who visited Uganda in May.

Sri Lanka has a per capita income of US$2,877 compared with US$500 for Uganda.

The main economic sectors of the country are tourism, tea exports, textiles, rice and other agricultural products.

Overseas employment also contributes highly in foreign exchange.
