10 Writers Associations Get Financial Aid

MuhyiddinPUTRAJAYA, July 30 – Ten writers associations today received a financial aid of RM10,000 each from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to cultivate literary works and culture.

They were Persatuan Peradaban Melayu Malaysia Kelantan, Persatuan Sasterawan Numera Malaysia, Persatuan Penulis Nasional Malaysia (Pena), Persatuan Penulis Budiman Malaysia (Budiman), Ikatan Persuratan Melayu (IPM), Persatuan Penulis Negeri Sembilan (Pen), Persatuan Penulis Johor, Persatuan Penterjemah dan Penulisan Kreatif Malaysia, Persatuan Seni Pentas India Kuala Lumpur, and Persatuan Siam Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor.

The financial aid is part of a RM2 million allocation announced by the government in April to help writers intensify creative efforts under a special programme to cultivate national language and literature 2013.

The financial aid was presented by Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, in conjunction with the National Language Implementation meeting at the Education Ministry here today.

After the two-hour meeting, the deputy prime minister attended the National Council of Professors meeting, also at the ministry.

Among those present were council chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Zakri Abdul Hamid, deputy chairman Distinguished Prof Datuk Dr Shamsul Amri Baharuddin and secretary Prof Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose.
