Prime Minister Conveys Condolences To Families Of Accident Victims In Sri Aman

KUCHING, Aug 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the government expressed their condolences to the families of victims involved in an accident near Sri Aman here yesterday.

najib12The condolence was conveyed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir when he visited the family of Halimah Hamrie, 30, one of those killed in the accident, at the deceased’s mother-in-law’s house in Samariang Batu here early today.

Jamil Khir arrived last midnight with Malaysian Islamic Religious Department Director-General (Jakim) Datuk Othman Mustapha and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Che Mat Che Ali.

After arriving at the Kuching International Airport, they went to visit Fakih Ikhwan, who was injured in the accident, at the Sarawak General Hospital here before going to visit the family of Harliani Hanani, 29, who was also killed in the accident, at Serian near here.

In the accident which occurred about 3.30pm yesterday, four Jakim officers, including the Sarawak assistant director, Ibrahim Hailee, 35, were killed when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in collided with a timber lorry at Km48 Jalan Sri Aman-Betong.

Besides Ibrahim, Harliani and Halimah, also killed in the crash was Qurraty Aini Rolfandy, 23. Two others were injured, including one with serious injury.

The accident occurred while they were on their way to a breaking of fast function with new converts at the Betong Mosque.

During the visit, Jamil Khir also presented the families of the accident victims the prime minister’s personal contribution, as well as from the Prime Minister’s Department and Jakim.

He regarded the death of the victims as a great loss to the country, especially in helping to spread the Islamic teaching.
