KUCHING, Aug 23 – The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and Road Transport Department (JPJ) should hold a detailed consultation on the proposal to revoke the licences of individuals who fail to pay their traffic summonses.

Datuk-Dr-Wan-Junaidi-Tuanku-JaafarDeputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this was necessary as all three agencies had different jurisdictions.

“Legal matters need to be coordinated to determine respective jurisdictions. Through consultation between the three agencies, any good suggestion can be brought to the agency’s legal adviser for study, coordination and amendment if necessary,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters during a working visit to the Sarawak National Registration Department (NRD) at Bangunan Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang, Jalan Simpang Tiga, here.

Also present was Sarawak NRD director Datuk Abu Bakar Mat.

On Aug 21, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said 1.7 million individuals who were blacklisted for not paying their traffic summonses could face having their driving licence revoked.

According to Khalid, they will focus on motorcyclists and drivers of commercial vehicles which have contributed the most to the number of fatalities in Ops Selamat III this Aidilfitri.
