PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23- A concert themed, “Harmony & Unity”, will be held for the first time in conjunction with Malaysia and Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration, at Dataran Merdeka this Sunday, featuring well-known artistes from both countries.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said Aug 25 was chosen for the concert as the date is between Aug 17, Indonesia’s Independence Day, and Aug 31, which is Malaysia’s Independence Day.
He said the concert, organised by the relevant ministry of both countries, with support from Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Telin Malaysia), would have popular Indonesian artistes Rossa and Ahmad Dhani performing as well as Malaysia’s Amy Search, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Ella.
Ahmad Shabery was speaking at a press conference while attending his ministry’s Raya celebration at Dataran Gemilang, here, Thursday.
Present at the press conference were his deputy Datuk Jailani Johari, the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf, member of the board of directors of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Ririek Adriansyah and Telin Indonesia officials.
Ahmad Shabery said Telin Malaysia, a joint-venture company between Bumiputera-owned Compudyne Sdn Bhd and Telekomunikasi Indonesia, was proof of the close Malaysia-Indonesia cooperation.
He said the objective of the joint-venture was to provide better telecommunication services for the Indonesian community in Malaysia and those who were always commuting between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Reriek said the company would introduce a new pre-paid phone SIM card at the end of this September, to facilitate public communication in both countries.
