Ahmedabad, Dec 3 – School children in western Indian state of Gujarat will be given special training to inculcate defence mechanism skills and habits of good citizenship, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

“The children will be educated about the role of police and be taught to act as a link between the police and society,” said Gujarat director-general of Police (DGP) Pramod Kumar.

“They will get police uniforms and the police will teach them. They will have real life experience of how a police personnel functions,” he said.

Director-general of Police (Administration) A K Singh said the objective was not to impose training on children but to create a positive influence for them.

The state government ordered the roll-out of the programme last week which started in Surat in South Gujarat recently.

To better facilitate implementation of the programme, ‘Suraksha Setu Societies’ have been formed at the state and district levels.
