Kuala Terengganu, Jan 25- PAS’s Dewan Ulama head Datuk Harun Taib died at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here at 12.17am today. He was 71.
The Dewan Ulama is PAS’s highest decision making body.
HSNZ director Tengku Ramlah Tengku Senik told reporters Harun died of Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS).
Harun was a four-term assembly of the Manir state seat in Terengannu. He won the seat in 1982 but lost it in the next election before being voted in again.
He held the seat until 2004.
He leaves behind a wife and five children.
Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, the information head of the Dewan Ulama, said the funeral would be held this morning.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was among the top leaders of PAS who paid their last respects to him earlier today.
