2014 Matta fair targets rm150 million in sales

Kuala Lumpur, March 6 – The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) fair to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) for three days is expected to rake in RM150 million in sales and attract more than 100,000 visitors.

Its chairman, Judy Cheah said last year the first Matta fair held in March had attracted 100,188 visitors while the September fair attracted 86,867 visitors.

“This year, the fair will see a total of 1,058 booths and close to 400 exhibitors providing all kinds of special deals, ranging from travel and tour packages, hotel accommodation, themed attractions and great deals from airlines,” she said at the SIA-MATTA Joint press conference here, Wednesday.

Also present was Singapore Airlines (SIA) General Manager, Tan Wei Qi.

She said the fair, which will be opened for the public from 10 am to 9pm from March 14, will also have three contests for the visitors, namely ‘Buyers Contest’ for those who purchased RM500 worth of packages during the fair, offering a grand prize of two business class return air tickets to London, courtesy of SIA.

The ‘Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 Contest’ is open for those who spend a minimum of RM200 on domestic packages while the third one is ‘Visitors Hourly Contest’ which will be giving out up to eight prizes per hour for lucky visitors, starting from 11am to 7pm, she said.

Judy Cheah said the public can also purchase their entry ticket to the fair, which is RM4 per person, via online at www.mattafair.org.my.

Meanwhile, Tan said SIA will showcase their new generation cabin product for the first time in Malaysia during the Matta Fair, which include the new seats and KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system.

“As the official airline of the Matta Fair 2014, visitors can also try out our new business class and economy class products,” he said adding that SIA had invested more than USD150 million (RM491.2 million) to install the new products on its latest B777-300ER aircraft.

Tan said these products were currently available on selected flights on the Singapore-London and Singapore-Mumbai routes, and will be available on the Singapore-Tokyo route by end of this month.

“More routes will be announced as we progressively take delivery of our new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft this year and Airbus A350s from next year,” he said.
