Kuala lumpur, December 4 – It has already won two National Film Awards in India for Best Actress and Best Cinematography and a special jury award at the Sofia International Film Festival
An Indian movie co-produced by Malaysians has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars in just three months. This is the first time a movie with Malaysian involvement is being submitted for this prestigious award, said PetraTara Studios Chairman and CEO, Datuk Vinod Sekhar and Vice Chairman and Executive Director, Datuk Eric Chong.
“Liar’s Dice, has already bagged two Indian national awards this year for best actress and cinematography. We are confident that this movie will follow in the footsteps of Slumdog Millionaire and make its mark at the Oscars as well.
“The movie deals with the issue of migrant labourers, the human cost of migration to cities and their exploitation. It follows the story of a young mother who lives in a remote village, and whose husband goes missing after having left for work many months before,” said Vinod.
Chong added that the film has so far won two National Film Awards including Best Actress for Geetanjali Thapa and Best Cinematography for Rajeev Ravi at the 61st National Film Awards in India. Now it is India’s Official Entry for the 87th Academy Awards scheduled to take place on Feb 22, 2015.
“It has also been selected for screening at the Sundance Film Festival and International Film Festival in Rotterdam. It won a special jury award at the Sofia International Film Festival,” he said.
