In a press conference today held in MIC Headquarters, Mohan, referring to party President Palanivel’s statement in a news portal, said,  5 days have passed since the decision of ROS was declared and there has been no response from the President as to when he would return or his next course of action.

“There are only 85 days left as per the time frame provided by ROS. An independent committee should be immediately formed to oversee the party elections failing which there is a danger that the party may be de-registered” Mohan further said flanked by members of the pressure group that has been seeking re-election.

Mohan also said they are prepared to meet Palanivel to sought out an amicable solution to the matter. “The Independent election committee should comprise men of caliber and good standing who are neutral. They should not be “yes” men of party President. We also want our representatives to be included in the committee. There should also be representation from those who won in the last elections held. We are not asking our representatives to be appointed into the committee. We are merely urging that we should be given an opportunity to supervise the elections as we don’t want a repeat of November 30th elections fiasco” Mohan said.

Palanivel should take moral responsibility and resign

Mohan also called for the resignation of Palanivel as party President in view of the irregularities cited by ROS in their letter. “Since Palanivel was the one who was heading the election committee, he should take moral responsibility and resign. Although he is not legally bound to resign he should take moral responsibility for the debacle. Integrity is important for a leader” said Mohan.

In the press conference today, Mohan also explained the contents of the ROS letter send to MIC Headquarters on December 5th.

Meanwhile, party sources claimed that Palanivel is expected to return from overseas tomorrow night and is expected to reveal his next course of action on Friday.
