Sony to start Android 5.0 update for Xperia Z2 and Z3 in early 2015!

sony-androidNew Delhi, December 19 – Sony will start the update to Android Lollipop for its 2014 flagship phones in early 2015. In a reply to a query from a user on Twitter, Sony’s official Xperia handle replied that the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 would get the update in the beginning of 2015.

“@SamTomelleri We will start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series,” the Xperia account replied to a user.  Earlier the company was one of the first to detail its plans to update its devices to Android Lollipop.

Last month, Sony had detailed the Android 5.0 Lollipop ASOP configuration source, pre built software binaries, and build instructions for its flagship Xperia devices. This included the Xperia Z3 compact, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, and Xperia Z1 compact.

While Sony is expected to be one of the fastest to offer the update Android Lollipop, Motorola and Samsung have already started pushing out the update. The octa-core model of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has already started receiving an update in parts of Europe.

The Galaxy S4, its predecessor is expected to receive the update around the same time as the Sony Xperia Z3. Motorola has also done a brilliant job in pushing out the update to Lollipop. Its Moto G (2nd Gen) has already received the update to Lollipop.

sony-xperia-zIn fact, Motorola was even faster than Google at pushing out the update. The Moto G received the update to Lollipop faster than even the Nexus 5. Now, even the first generation Moto G has started receiving the update in some parts of the world.

Users on the XDA forum have claim that even in India, the first generation Moto G has started receiving the update to Android Lollipop. LG has also started pushing out the update to Lollipop to its 2014 flagship, the G3 in South Korea and some parts of Europe.  Reports suggest, that HTC may also release the Lollipop update for the One (M7) and One (M8) in January.
