KOTA KINABALU, Feb 27 – Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) promises contained in their election manifesto including giving 20 per cent oil royalty to Sabah were all false promises, said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad(Pic). He cited their promises made in Selangor during the last general election in 2008, with most of those promises still unfulfilled.

“After coming into power in Selangor, only then they realised they could not do the things they promised but they refused to admit it…they even say that a manifesto is not a promise.

Datuk-Dr-Abdul-Latiff-Ahmad“If that it is the case, anyone can simply make promises. An election is indeed a commitment for the people and nation. If you have promised something, you just have to do it,” he said after the presentation of excellent service awards and appreciation event at the Sabah Defence Ministry, here, last night.

He was asked to comment on PR’s election manifesto which promised, among others, reduced oil and car prices and utility rates, free education and increased income tax for those earning RM400,000 and above annually from RM250,000 and above currently.

Abdul Latiff reminded the people not be deceived by PR’s sweet promises, made solely to fish for votes in the upcoming general election.

“The opposition said all kinds of things in their previous election manifesto and then only they started thinking. In BN, we think first before we talk (promise), and we have the data which we can rely on in doing things for the rakyat,” he said. Earlier, in his speech, Abdul Latif said the government would not compromise with any public servant found leaking government secrets.

“If we are complacent and dishonest, there will be quarters taking advantage of this, which could threaten national security and stability,” he said.
