SubramaniamKUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam (pic) has agreed to a moratorium to allow discussions with Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to resolve the worsening party crisis.

Dr Subramaniam said he had informed MIC leaders at all levels about the initiative by Najib, including the Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri MIC and they have all agreed for the moratorium.

“This morning the prime minister had contacted me, urging all in the party to a moratorium to allow room to resolve the crisis within the MIC. We respect his (Najib) request as the BN chairman to come forward and resolve the crisis,” he told reporters, here Thursday.

Also present were MIC vice president Datuk M. Saravanan, MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member P. Kamalanathan, Youth chief C. Sivarraajh and Wanita chief M. Mohana.

Dr Subramaniam who is also the Health Minister said he had also raised the issue of who would administer the party during the interim period since the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has declared the party’s election for 23 CWC members and three vice presidents in 2013 as null and void.

He said they would also put forward a resolution taken during a meeting last Saturday which was attended by party leaders, including 90 of the 120 Division chairmen, to declare that the CWC elected during the 2009-2013 term be given the task to manage the party.

Dr Subramaniam said he had full confidence in the Prime Minister as he would be able to weigh the situation and listen to the voice of party members from the grassroots.

On Dec 5, the RoS nullified the elections for the party’s three vice-presidents and 23 CWC posts held during its general assembly in November 2013 and recommended fresh polls within 90 days.
