Tamilselven Pahang MIC ChairmanPUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 — MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel today appointed Raub division chairman K.Tamil Selvam (pic) as the Pahang MIC liaison chief, replacing Senator Datuk R.Goonasegaran.

The appointment letter was issued today. Gunasegaran who was appointed as Pahang MIC chief in 2013, has been informed of his removal from the post also via a letter today.

On Monday, Palanivel announced the list of the interim Central Working Committee (CWC) following the Home Ministry’s order for the party to hold fresh elections.

He said the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had directed CWC members elected in 2009 to form an interim committee for the purpose of holding re-elections.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that the 68-year-old party should hold new elections for all elected posts between this April and July to avoid deregistration.

The decision was made by the RoS to ensure that the dispute over the election of MIC’s office-bearers could be resolved.

Ahmad Zahid said the failure of MIC to hold re-elections could result in the party’s de-registration under Section 13 of the Societies Act 1966.

MIC leaders, following a meeting with Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Feb 4, agreed to hold fresh elections as a solution to the crisis in the party.

The crisis had erupted over differences of opinion after the RoS nullified the elections for the three posts of vice-president and 23 CWC posts at the party’s general assembly held in Melaka in November 2013 following complaints of irregularities.

In a letter dated Dec 5, 2014, the RoS ordered MIC to hold fresh elections for these posts within 90 days.
