IPOH, March 6 – Perak Menteri Besar announced the allocation of an 800-hectare land in Besout, Sungkai by the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government to be developed as an oil palm plantation for the development of education among its Indian community.
“National Land Finance Cooperative Society (NLFCS), a well respected institution in the community, has been entrusted with the development of the plantation and management of the funds generated from it,” he told reporters after chairing a state Exco meeting, here today.
Clarifying that the state government had needed time to finalise a few aspects before the allocation, which caused some delay, he added that the opposition had taken the opportunity to politicise the matter.
“We have allocated agricultural land to all schools, including Sekolah Agama Rakyat and Chinese schools. Compared to the previous administration (when Perak was ruled by the opposition), the BN government is fair,” he said.
Meanwhile, Indian Affairs advisor to the Menteri Besar, Datuk S. Veerasingam said the community was grateful to the state government for the land and the RM1 million allocation to assist needy students.
