SANDAKAN, March 12 – The Sabah Forestry Department has contributed RM20,000 to the Lahad Datu Heroes Fund set up by Media Prima Berhad in appreciation of the sacrifices of the security forces in defending the country against the Sulu terrorists.
The donation was handed over by Sabah Forestry Department director Datuk Sam Mannan(pic) to Media Prima Berhad representative Ronnie Sidom at the former’s office here today.
“We hope this small token can help lessen the burden of the families of the heroes who were killed while defending our country. This contribution is nothing compared to the sacrifices they have made for our nation,” Mannan said.
As a government agency, he said, the department supported efforts to resolve the armed intrusion. The security forces launched the “Ops Daulat” offensive on March 5 after the terrorists killed eight policemen in Kampung Tanduo and Kampung Simunul, Semporna, on March 1 and 2. Five policemen were also injured in the two attacks.
The terrorists had holed up in Kampung Tanduo since Feb 12 and had not responded to government overtures for them to lay down arms and surrender unconditionally.
