ISLAMABAD, March 12 – A Pakistani independent analyst on Monday described the inauguration of the final construction phase of the multi-billion-dollar Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project as a positive development.
Iran’s IRNA reported, Prof Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi as saying that the project would help to boost Pakistan’s economy. The final construction phase of the gas pipeline project at Iranian border town of Gabad was officially launched by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari.
“It is a positive development and a step in the right direction because completion of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project means that Pakistan’s energy requirements will be met to a great extent and this will then help Pakistan’s economy by boosting industry,” said the analyst.
He also noted that the project is also useful for Iran because it will enable Iran to expand its international economic relations despite America’s efforts to isolate Iran and apply unilateral economic sanctions.
