Singapore PM congratulates Li on appointment as China premier

SINGAPORE, March 15 – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has congratulated Li Keqiang on his new appointment as Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.  In a letter released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, Lee said:

“You take over at an important juncture in China’s development. China is the world’s second largest economy and an important player on the international stage. I am confident that your policies will bring continued stability and progress for China and its people.

“Singapore and China enjoy excellent ties, underpinned by frequent high-level exchanges, robust economic cooperation and close people-to-people links.

“We share many interests and challenges as we strive to better our peoples’ lives,” Lee said, adding he looks forward to working with Li to enhance close cooperation between both countries. The prime minister, in recalling both leaders’ meeting in Beijing, said:

“I remember warmly our candid discussions when we met in Beijing last September. I hope to reciprocate your kind hospitality by hosting you in Singapore soon.”
