GEORGE TOWN, March 16- A group of 100 non-governmental association (NGO) members here gathered outside the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling last night to protest against PKR vice-president Tian Chua’s(Pic) alleged statement that the Sulu terrorist intrusion in Lahad Datu was staged.

The protestors, from NGOs which included Kebajikan Al-Ehsan Malaysia (Al-Ehsan), Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida), Persatuan Muka Buku and Persatuan Kebajikan Insan Mulia, had gathered as early as 8 pm at the premises where Parti Keadilan Rakyat was holding a dinner function.

Tian Chua’s arrival at 10 pm caused a furor among the group but police managed to calm the situation.  However, as Tian Chua was leaving the function in his car about 30 minutes later after giving a talk, the group obstructed the vehicle and allegedly tried to bash it.  Police and Federal Reserve Unit personnel were on hand to prevent a ruckus. Meanwhile, North East District Police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng, who was at the scene, said police had detained Suara Anak-Anak Malaysia chairman Mohamed Ghani Abdul Jiman.
