Kuala Lumpur – In the wake of the serious flooding in Terengganu, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (ExxonMobil) has contributed RM150,000 to MERCY Malaysia to assist impacted families at high need flood relief centres located in Kuala Berang, Dungun and Besut.
Personal hygiene kits will be distributed to the families today. Each kit caters for a family of two adults and three children and contains personal items such as toiletries, blankets and undergarments.
“We are concerned about the hardship caused by the floods. We hope our contribution will be able to support MERCY in its humanitarian efforts, and that much needed aid can be extended to impacted families and communities in the East Coast,” said Sukiman Mohamed, General Manager – Public and Government Affairs, ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia.
ExxonMobil has partnered with MERCY Malaysia in previous years to support its flood relief and preparedness programmes for schoolchildren and community members in Terengganu which included topics such as safety and health during flood situations. Last year, it contributed RM50,000 to Kemaman’s flood preparedness plan, with the funds being used for the purchase of emergency equipment, supplies and training for flood relief personnel.
