LAHAD DATU, March 25 – Silam MP Salleh Kalbi*pic) has proposed to the Sabah and federal governments to erect a monument to honour the security forces’ personnel killed in the Sulu terrorist intrusion in Sabah.

“The monument will remind the people, particularly those in the state, how important it is for all of us to help maintain peace and sovereignty.

4“It is also in appreciation of the deeds of the security forces who placed their lives at risk in defending the country from the terrorists,” he told Bernama.

He suggested that the monument be built in Tanjung Batu or Felda Sahabat. Salleh said he would discuss with the state government to have an area gazetted for putting up the monument.  The Sulu terrorists killed eight policemen on March 1 and 2 after having holed up in Kampung Tanduo near here since Feb 12. A government offensive to flush them out has resulted in 65 of them being killed so far. A soldier was also killed in a gun battle and another soldier died in a road accident.
