KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 – Planning assassinations is not a political culture in this country, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad(Pic). He said this when asked to comment on a hope by PAS member, Zainol Ismail, to meet Dr Mahathir so that he could apologise to the former prime minister for having planned to kill him in 1988.

“I don’t even know there was a plan to kill me because I like to go everywhere and am never afraid. Only know do I know that there is someone who wanted to kill me.

2“I hope this will not be a culture in Malaysia. In Malaysia, if we disagree or have enemies in politics, it will not be to an extent of wanting to kill.

“I have no problems forgiving him. I’ll forgive other people, too, if there is,” said Dr Mahathir to reporters at a forum

“Building a Malay Civilisation based on Islamic Civilisation” at the Parliament building here today.

Dr Mahathir was a member of the forum, together with former Chief Justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad and a corporate figure, Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim.  Local media today reported that Zainol, also known as CN Afghani, planned the assassination because of the ” Amanat Haji Hadi” which claimed Umno as infidels.
