PUTRAJAYA, March 28- Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof (Pic)said it has no power to make guidelines for caretaker governments as there is no provision under the constitution and the law.
“Even if the EC has guidelines on the matter, there is no guarantee that they will adhere to it,” he told reporters when asked whether it can make guidelines for caretaker governments.
However, the EC felt the state goverments and the federal government should have guidelines on the do’s and dont’s for caretaker governments. Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had asked the Attorney-General’s Chamber to make guidelines for caretaker governments. In another development, the EC denied claims that it did not give feedback to a letter sent by Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, Nurul Izzah Anwar on March 4 on 4,637 ‘dubious’ voters in the constituency.
“As of this morning, the EC has not received the letter in question. Who knows, it may arrive after this. If the letter had been received, the EC would certainly take note and revise it,” said Abdul Aziz.
Newspapers yesterday reported that Nurul Izzah had filed for judicial review to strike out 4,637 Lembah Pantai voters she claimed to be dubious from the electoral roll.
