Foreign investment highlights talks between top leaders of Myanmar, Singapore

YANGON, April 2 – Foreign investment has highlighted talks between Myanmar President U Thein Sein and his visiting Singaporean counterpart Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam during their meeting in Myanmar’s capital, Nay Pyi Taw, China’s Xinhua news agency reported, citing official media report on Tuesday.

The Myanmar president invited Singaporean entrepreneurs to invest in Myanmar, saying that the country is in need of capital, technology and human resources while implementing economic reform process for development. He cited that Myanmar’s foreign investment law has been enacted and the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) has eased sanctions against the country.

2_2Tan thanked the Myanmar President for allowing Singapore to open a technical training school in Myanmar which he said would be of great benefit to Myanmar youths. The two presidents also exchanged views on education, housing construction and human resources development.

Tan arrived in Nay Pyi Taw Monday on a five-day state visit to Myanmar, the first to the country of a Singaporean top leader to deepen ties with Myanmar in the process of its democratisation and reform.
