GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional announced today that it has finalised its list of candidates for the coming election
Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow(Pic) told newsmen that the allocation of seats among the coalition’s partners would be the same as in the previous election, which means Umno will contest five parliamentary and 15 state seats, Gerakan four and 13, MCA four and 10 and MIC zero and two
He said some issues cropped up during negotiations yesterday but he did not elaborate
However, he added, he did not think these would affect the list. “It’s too short a notice, too late for this election.”
Teng declined to say which state seat had been assigned to him, saying this would be known only on nomination day.
Teng’s party, Gerakan, was wiped out in Penang in the 2008 election, as were MCA and MIC. Umno won 11 state seats.
Before that BN defeat, Gerakan had ruled Penang for 39 years.
