KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 – The police in Pahang, Terengganu and Melaka today stated their readiness to ensure a smooth and safe 13th general election. In KUANTAN, Pahang Police chief Datuk Sharifuddin Ab Ghani said 5,000 police officers and men would be deployed to ensure a peaceful polls.
More than 400 police personnel from Bukit Aman would also be enlisted to help out, he told reporters. He advised electoral candidates to adhere to the instructions of the police during campaigning.
“The police will advise the candidates on the suitable place and time to hold their campaigns. We do not want there to be any disorder,” he said.
Sharifuddin said head of the Pahang Department of Management ACP Anuar Osman would be appointed the spokesperson at the media centre here to assist media personnel daily, from 9 am to 5 pm. In KUALA TERENGGANU, state police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa warned political party leaders, members and supporters of severe action if they sparked chaos
during the election period.
Party supporters should refrain from getting emotional, he told reporters after attending Friday prayers at the Kampung Buluh Gading Mosque. They should adhere to the directives and guidelines set by the authorities to enable a smooth election, he added. In MELAKA, state police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said 2,441 police officers and men were ready to ensure a smooth polls.
“The police strength is sufficient to ensure peaceful campaigning and polling,” he told reporters.
