1944: Born on August 20 to Feroze and Indira Gandhi in Mumbai.
1967: Left the Imperial College, London, without a degree. He earlier studied in Trinity College, Cambridge and did his schooling from The Doon School, Dehradun.
1968: Became a professional pilot for Indian Airlines. Married Sonia Gandhi.
1980: Joined politics following the death of his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi.
1984: Became the Prime Minister of India and served till 1989.
1989: Served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
May 21, 1991: Was assassinated by LTTE cadres while campaigning for the Congress candidate from Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu) for the Lok Sabha elections.
