PETALING JAYA: PKR’s vocal critic Ummi Hafilda Ali(Pic) is willing to contest in the elections under the Barisan Nasional banner as long as the ruling coalition allows her to contest against “two traitors of the nation” – PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and her brother, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
“If given an opportunity, I would like to oppose both of them only. I am not interested in the rest because my goal is not to be a leader but to destroy these traitors,” she was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
“This is my country and I don’t want traitors of the race (pengkhianat bangsa) to smear Malaysia even if the person is my own flesh and blood,” said Ummi Hafilda in reference to Azmin
Ummi Hafilda shot to prominence when she became the prosecution’s witness in Anwar’s first sodomy trial in 1998. She is an Umno member who has been relentless in campaigning against Anwar, Azmin and PKR
Anwar is the incumbent Permatang Pauh MP whereas Azmin won the Gombak parliamentary and Bukit Antarabangsa state seat on 2008. Ummi is interested in contesting both the parliamentary seats.
She told Utusan that she is sincere in her offer and this was not meant for cheap publicity.
Two days ago, Umno blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who blogs as Papagomo, announced that he would contest in Permatang Pauh as an independent candidate through his representative – NGO Nadi Rakyat Malaysia president Mohd Rafi Awang Kechik.
In another matter, Utusan editor Zaini Hassan through his column “Cuit” questioned why Perlis mufti Juanda Jaya was willing to contest under a PKR ticket in Kangar.
“Juanda was among the first to expose that Anwar is pluralist who believed that all faiths are equal. Many of Anwar’s friends left Anwar when this news spread in Malaysia.
“Did Anwar offer carrots to Juanda similar to the offers made to former generals contesting under PKR?” Zaini asked.
