JOHOR BAHARU, April 17 – Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman (pic) said he felt relieved to let go the Johor menteri besar post after four terms. He said he felt relieved also because he had carried out the trust given to him to the best of his ability throughout his tenure as menteri besar (MB).
Asked on the changes that had taken place in the state since 1995 (when he became MB), he said Johor enjoyed stability as there was good understanding among the people.
He said Johor also experienced holistic change not just in the economic sector but also in the social and other sectors. “Al these have formed a strong foundation for Johor to achieve far greater success in future.”
Abdul Ghani rejected the claim made by DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang at a party ceramah that Umno had fielded him for the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat as it did not want him to continue being the menteri besar.
He said this was not true as he himself was happy to let go the MB post. Asked whether he was happy to be made the BN candidate for Gelang Patah and facing Lim, Abdul Ghani said he would shoulder the responsibility as best as he
On the next menteri besar, Abdul Ghani said it would only be decided after the general election, but he believed that all quarters would give their full support to the new MB for Johor’s continued development and stability.
He hoped that although there were attempts by the opposition to cause misunderstanding and disunity among the people in Johor, they would follow the ”Johor way”, that is, choosing BN to govern the state.
