Los Angeles, April 19, 2013-Brad Pitt has revealed he made his upcoming zombie blockbuster World War Z to impress his sons Maddox, Pax and Knox.
Brad Pitt made World War Z so his sons could see it.
The actor will next be seen on the big screen in the zombie apocalypse blockbuster and admits he only took the role to impress his three sons with Angelina Jolie – Maddox, 12, Pax, nine and four-year-old Knox.
Introducing a screening of the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this week, he said: “Listen, five years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about a zombie; today, I consider myself an expert.
“This whole thing started because I just wanted to do a film that my boys could see before they turned 18 – one that they would like, anyways. And they love a zombie. So we settled on this book, Max Brooks’ book, calledWorld War Z.”
Pitt – who also has three daughters, Zahara, eight, Shiloh, six, and Vivienne, four – went on to discuss the setbacks the film faced, adding: “We were faced with two Herculean challenges – how do we keep the global, spectacular, dynamic scope of the book and how do we originate a genre that’s been done quite often and really, really well?”
The ambitious movie, directed by Marc Foster and co-starring Mireille Enos and Matthew Fox, is set to hit cinemas this summer, but the flick – which took eight years to bring to life – has been hampered by numerous rewrites and reshoots, resulting in the film’s budget reportedly ballooning from $125 million to $175 million.
World War Z is due for release on June 21.
