PETALING JAYA, April 19- Portal 1News, RTM’s alternative news channel, was launched today to complement news bulletins over TV1 and TV2. Information, Communications and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf said the portal is being launched at an opportune time to enable the younger set, who are familiar with the alternative media, to follow the news and the latest developments in the country.
“I hope the younger set will not lag behind in keeping up with the current developments unravelling in the country.
“The newly launched portal will air news that are accurate, fast and informative to be read and understood at any time of the day,” he said when launching the portal at Taylor’s University, here.
The channel, to be surfed at 1news.rtm.gov.my., provides news in the video format that are televised live for five minutes for every news item without being edited. Under the first phase, the news will be aired in four-hour intervals from 9am to 10pm daily. The portal will go into full operations in August.
