PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has confirmed that all 222 parliamentary and 505 state seats will be contested in the May 5 general election.
At the close on nomination on Saturday, a total of 579 candidates have been confirmed for the parliament seats.
They comprised 221 candidates from Barisan Nasional with others from PKR (99), PAS (73), DAP (51), Independents (79), STAR (28), Berjasa (9), SAPP (8), SWP (6), Kita (2), PCM (2), and Bersama (1).
For the state seats, the EC approved 1,320 from Barisan (505), PAS (236), PKR (172), DAP (102), Independents (190), STAR (49), SAPP (41), Berjasa (5), Kita (11), Bersama (4), PCM (3) and PSM (2).
For parliamentary seats, one constituency each will be a seven-cornered and six-cornered fight.
A total of 132 will see two-cornered fights, 57 (three-cornered), 24 (four-cornered) and seven (five-cornered).
For the state seats, there will be one seven-cornered fight, 320 two-cornered fights, 107 (three cornered), 42(four-cornered), 25 (five-cornered) and 10 (six-cornered).
