KUALA KANGSAR, April 23 – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lacked esprit de corps when he failed to carry out his promise to contest outside his area, as done by his colleagues in the opposition.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz claimed that Anwar was prepared to stab his friends in the back by allowing them to contest outside their respective areas in the 13th general election (GE13) when he did himself did not do so.
“He duped Lim Kit Siang (DAP advisor)…Kit Siang went to Johor, he (Anwar) promised to come to Perak, Datuk Husam Musa (PAS vice-president) also jumped from Kelantan to Putrajaya, although knowing he would not win it,…as they had an agreement. But he (Anwar) did not jump,” he told reporters after the launching of the Perak Barisan Nasional manifesto, here, today.
Anwar, who is also the incumbent for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, prior to this, said he would be contesting in Perak, but then decided to defend Permatang Pauh seat instead. Lim, the incumbent for the Ipoh Timur parliamentary seat in Perak moved to Gelah Patah in Johor, while Husam, the incumbent for the Kubang Krian parliamentary seat in Kelantan moved to the Putrajaya seat while at the same time defending the Salor state seat in Kelantan.
