Norman FernandezJOHOR BARU: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has always wanted to extend the implementation of hudud law to non-Muslims, said Johor DAP deputy chairman Norman Fernandez.

He pointed out that Abdul Hadi had made such a declaration in 2002 when he was winding up a debate on the Syariah Criminal Offences (Hudud and Qisas) Bill in Terengganu.

“On July 7, 2002, when Abdul Hadi was the Terengganu Mentri Besar, he had declared that when the time comes, hudud and qisas law would be extended to non-Muslims,” wrote Fernandez in his article posted on the the blog syedsoutsidethebox.blogspot.com late on Saturday.

Fernandez pointed out that Abdul Hadi’s statement was widely reported and never denied.

It was reported that Fernandez had dropped a bombshell in his article on the blog by dramatically urging voters to reject PAS in the general election, saying that the state could not gamble and risk its future with the Islamist party.

He had since come under fire, with both PAS and DAP leaders criticising him.

However, Kedah DAP committee member S. Neelamekan had also joined Fernandez in urging voters to reject PAS until the party abandoned its call for an Islamic state.

Fernandez also expressed his concern over the statements made by PAS leaders, which were reported in the online portal Malaysian Times, that the party was mulling over changing the weekend from Sunday to Friday.
