JOHOR BAHARU, May 16- Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique, 51, who was appointed as Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, was a former Johor State Executive Councillor who has wide experience in community development and local government.
The former teacher once held the post of chairman of the Johor Unity and Social Welfare Committee from 1995 to 1999 while from 1999 to 2004, she was appointed chairman of the Family Development, Women Affairs and Health Committee.
After the 2004 general election, she was appointed as chairman of the Local Government and Health Committee before moving to contest the Tenggara Parliamentary seat in the 2008 general election which she won for two terms.
The former Johor Wanita Umno chief began her political career in 1995 after she was chosen as a candidate for Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest the Gunung Lambak state constituency seat in the 9th general election.
Halimah had held the post of Wanita Umno Malaysia Exco post from 2000 to 2008 and was noted for being a friendly and humble person.
The mother of three has wide experience at the federal level by holding the post of chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) for four years until last year.
She was also a member of the Board of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) since 2009, and was appointed a member of the Board of Felcra this year.
