KOTA KINABALU, May 16 – Former Sabah rural development minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, who has been appointed Science, Technology and Innovation Minister in the new federal cabinet, is among the Kadazandusun leaders with a wealth of political experience.
The law graduate from Universiti Malaysia started his political career in 1985 as a member of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and then joined the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) after the 1994 general election.
From 1989, he held various important posts in Sabah including as assistant minister and minister in the state cabinet.
In the 2008 general election, standing on a Barisan Nasional ticket for the Paginatan state seat, he won with a 3,457-vote majority.
Following that, Ewon who is also UPKO vice-president, was Sabah rural development minister until 2013. In the 13th general election on May 5, Ewon won the Ranau parliamentary seat with a 3,611-vote majority.
