datuk-idrisMELAKA, May 21- Datuk Idris Harun (photo)  today announced that he had relinquished his post as Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) chairman, effective May 15.

Idris, who held the post for over three years since April 2010, said the decision was made to enable him to concentrate on his tasks as Melaka Chief Minister.

“As Chief Minister, I need to focus on the people and on developing Melaka, so it is better for me to let go the post (SPNB chairman) as time will be a constraint and there’re also more responsibilities now,” he said, here, today.

Idris said it would also give an opportunity for a new face to hold the post and offer new ideas to steer SPNB to greater heights. Idris, the former Tangga Batu MP, contested and won the Sungai Udang state seat, defeating PKR’s Asri Buang with a 9,136-vote majority in the 13th general election on May 5.

Idris was sworn in as Melaka Chief Minister on May 7, replacing Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam who held the CM post for 13 years.
