SUNGAI PETANI, May 23- Former Kedah MIC Youth Chief S.K. Sures said he was happy and relieved to clear his name from a murder case after a seven-year wait.
Sures, 46, said the May 15 Court of Appeal decision favouring him with RM10,000 each in damages and cost in his civil suit against the Police and the Malaysian government for wrongful detention was a good start.
“I was wrongfully detained on July 11 2007 for a murder case. Although I was released without being charged, my image and reputation as a community leader was tarnished because news of my detention appeared in the papers and TV,” he told a press conference here today.
Accompanied by his lawyer T. Rajasekaran, he added,” I have faith in the judicial system. I just hope the police will be more careful, detailed and transparent in their investigations so that justice is upheld without prejudice.”
Sures, who is Kubang Pasu MIC chief, said despite the situation he still continued to serve the people as he did not want to labeled as an irresponsible leader.
On July 11 2007, Sures was remanded with three other individuals to facilitate investigations into the murder of a teacher in Jitra on June 26.
