KOTA BAHARU, June 12- The Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) filed five election petitions at the High Court here today seeking a declaration that the May 5 general election results for five seats in the state were null and void.
They are the results for the Bachok parliamentary seat and the Jelawat, Mengkebang, Gaal and Manek Urai state seats.
The petitions, which named the BN candidates contesting for the respective seats as petitioners, were filed through the legal firm of Messrs. Mohd Ilias & Co and handed to High Court deputy registrar Noor Haslinda Che Seman at 2.30pm.
The petitioner named for Bachok is former deputy finance minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin, who lost the contest to PAS’ Ahmad Marzuk Shaary with a 201-vote majority, while BN candidate for Jelawat, Datuk Ilias Husain, lost to Abdul Aziz Kadir, of PAS, who obtained a majority of 102 votes.
The Mengkebang seat was won by PAS candidate Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman with a majority of 1,072 votes, defeating BN’s Azizzuddin Hussein.
The petitioner for Gaal, Redzuan Stapha, lost to PAS’ Tuan Mazlan Tuan Mat, who secured a majority of 302 votes, while in Manek Urai, PAS’ Mohd Fauzi Abdullah defeated BN’s Che Jalal Muda with a majority of 1,633 votes.
Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) also filed petitions to nullify the 13th general election (GE13) results for the Machang and Ketereh parliamentary seats.
The petition for Machang was filed by the party’s candidate, Wan Zawawi Wan Ismail, who lost to BN’s Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub with a majority of 805 votes.
PKR candidate Ab Aziz Ab Kadir who lost to BN’s Tan Sri Annuar Musa with a majority of 974 votes is the petitioner for Ketereh.
PAS also filed a petition today, for the Selising state seat which was won by BN candidate Zulkifle Ali with a 107-vote majority in a three corned fight against PAS’ Saipul Bahrim Mohamad and an Independent candidate, Ibrahim Ismail.
The petition was filed by Selising PAS election director Semsudin Muhammad. The election petitions by PKR and PAS were filed through the legal firm of Messrs. Hisham Fauzi Associates.
Yesterday, PAS filed two petitions seeking to nullify the election results for the Air Lanas and Kok Lanas state seats.
