NEW YORK, June 12- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon (photo) reiterated on Monday UN’s commitment to a solution based on a mutually acceptable agreement for Saharawi people’s self-determination.
Algeria Press Service (APS) reported that the president of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz met with Ban Ki-Moon and the chairman of the Security Council, Sir Mark Lyall Grant, at the UN headquarters, here on Monday.
According to APS, discussions were intended to push forward the Western Sahara issue, which has reached stalemate.
Abdelaziz also broached with the UN chief and Grant, the human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara.
The meeting with Ban Ki-moon was also attended by UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, UN Deputy Secretary-General for Human Rights, Ivan Simonovic and senior UN officials.
During the meeting, the UN chief greeted Polisario Front’s commitment to favouring dialogue and underlined the attention he gave to the human rights situation in Western Sahara.
The Polisario Front is a Sahrawi national liberation movement working to end Moroccan occupation in the Western Sahara.
