KUANTAN, June 12 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) will immediately investigate complaints on statements containing elements of sedition and defamation in the social media sites during the 13th general election (GE13).
State Women and Family Development, Communication and Multimedia Committee chairman Datuk Shahaniza Shamsuddin said SKMM received many complaints concerning seditious and defamatory statements in the social media sites during GE13.
At the same time, she praised SKMM for detaining a woman in an investigation on a case of insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in her Facebook (FB).
“I feel it was a very good move to remind users of social media sites to be more careful and not arbitrarily make a posting,” she said.
She said this when met by reporters after a working visit to agencies and departments under her portfolio at Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Pahang here
today.The Kuala Sentul State Assemblywoman also visited SKMM and the Special Affairs Depertment to listen to views of the relevant groups on how to improve the multimedia communication system in the state.
Shahaniza said she agreed with the suggestion of certain parties for controls to be put up in using facilities on the social media sites.
She said, SKMM would launch a ‘Click Wisely’ campaign on June 29 to explain on how to avoid from inciting, using bad word and from being trapped in cyber crimes.
