KUALA LUMPUR, June 27- Indonesia is prepared to accept assistance from Asean member countries to solve the haze and air quality issues, Indonesian Vice-Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar (photo) said.
He said although the problem was currently being tackled using the cloud seeding technology, assistance and suggestions from other Asean member countries would be most welcomed.
“We have no problem if Asean member countries want to offer their helps and assistance because Asean itself is a regional solidarity.
“We welcome any forms of assistance, be it technical or informational, or voluntary firefighters to help put out the forest fires in Indonesia,” he told Bernama when met at the Asean Tourism Destination Marketing Forum here today.
Last Monday, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono apologised to Malaysia and Singapore for the thick haze caused by forest fires in Sumatra.
The president also promised that Indonesia would strive to extinguish the blazes by using cloud seeding technology and by deploying more firefighters and military personnel.
